    Alan M. Coren, DVM, Founder

    Dr. Alan M. Coren, a graduate of Cornell University with Phi Zeta honors in 1980, is our director and senior staff member.  Dr. Coren began our practice in May 1982 and under his guidance, we have grown to become one of Long Island's largest, most respected veterinary practices. 

    He is an active member of the AVMA, NYSVMS, LIVMA, and AAHA, amongst other professional organizations.  An accomplished surgeon and medical doctor, he leads our group through his desire to always provide the best possible care for his patients and service for their owners.

     Dr. Coren is an avid sailor, skier, mountaineer, cyclist, and fitness enthusiast.  He lives in Dix Hills with his wife, Karen, and occasionally his granddog, Kobe, comes to visit for a long weekend.

  • Niccole E. Bruno, DVM

    Niccole E. Bruno, DVM

    Originally from Queens, NY. At the age of 12 Niccole knew she wanted to become a veterinarian.  Graduated Magna cum laude from Tuskegee University in Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science in 2002. She obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in 2006. Upon graduation, she completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at Long Island Veterinary Specialists in Plainview, NY. She joined West Hills Animal Hospital in 2007. Her interests include diabetes mellitus management, dermatology and renal disease.  

    Dr Bruno has served as a mentor to Long Island students interested in veterinary medicine and frequently gives lectures for career day at various schools in NYC and Long Island.  In her spare time, Dr. Bruno enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, arts and crafts and reading. Dr. Bruno has 2 dogs: Fendi (Peke-poo) and Jimmy (shih-poo) and 2 Siamese cats.

  • Matthew B. Steinberg, DVM

    Matthew B. Steinberg, DVM

    In January of 2012 Dr. Steinberg became an owner and partner of our West Hills East Veterinary Clinic located in Commack. He is a native Long Islander and graduate of Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. In 2005 he performed a rotating small animal surgery and medicine internship at the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan and spent the following year as an emergency veterinarian at New York City Veterinary Specialists. He spent another 2 years practicing high quality veterinary medicine at Park East Animal Hospital in Manhattan. Dr. Steinberg has a fantastic wife Suzi, amazing boy/girl twins, Daniel and Hannah, a cat named Samantha and an Australian Shepherd/Standard Poodle puppy named Lily. His special interests in veterinary medicine include neurology, emergency medicine, and especially being the bridge between owners and pets helping people keep their pets happy and healthy.

    Carissa J. Dominguez, DVM

    Originally from Massachusetts, Dr. Dominguez obtained her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 2001 and 2002, respectively. As a lifelong dream, Dr. Dominguez pursued her veterinary career in the south. In 2009, Dr. Dominguez obtained her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University in Alabama and completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at Florida Veterinary Specialists in Tampa. Missing the northeast (except the cold weather), Dr. Dominguez decided to join the staff at West Hills Animal Hospital. She has two cats, Eliza and Leia.

    Lauren McGowan, DVM

    Dr. Lauren McGowan has been a resident of Massapequa Park, where she still currently resides.  She is a graduate of Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, where she completed her Bachelor of Science with honors.  She obtained her Degree of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University in Basseterre, St. Kitts.  Her clinical rotations were completed in Blacksburg, Virginia at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine.  She then completed a general rotating small animal internship at Long Island Veterinary Specialists (LIVS) in Plainview, New York.  She spent an additional two years at LIVS as an Emergency and Critical Care Staff Clinician before joining the wonderful team at West Hills Animal Hospital.  Dr. McGowan has a strong interest in Radiology and is always attending national meetings for Continuing Education.  She has a dog named Madison that was rescued from the island of St. Kitts, seven cats (Magic, Chicklet, Tuxedo, Oreo, Bubbles, Jezebel, and Waldo), and two cockatiels (Cookie and Jade).

    Kristin Touma, DVM

    Dr. Kristin Touma is a resident of Commack, NY, but originally from NH.  She is a graduate of Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, where she completed her Bachelor of Science with honors.  She obtained her Degree of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University in Basseterre, St. Kitts.  Her clinical rotations were completed in St. Paul, Minnesota at the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine.  She then completed a general rotating small animal internship at Long Island Veterinary Specialists (LIVS) in Plainview, New York.  And then joined the wonderful team at West Hills Animal Hospital.  Dr. Touma has an interest in Emergency medicine and Anesthesia. She has a dog named Kinky that was rescued from the island of St. Kitts.

    Jared B. Coren, DVM


    Dr. Jared Coren is amongst the newest of our team of veterinarians.  Being the son of Dr. Alan Coren, he grew up going to work with his dad and has filled a variety of roles at West Hills Animal Hospital over the years.  He obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree from Cornell University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude.  He then pursued his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University, graduating in the Top 10% of his class.  Dr. Coren was inducted into the Phi Zeta Honor Society as a third year veterinary student, an honor reserved for the top ranked members in the class.  While in veterinary school, Dr. Coren was a two-time award winner of the Finger Lakes Kennel Club Award, an award given to a student that displayed a strong interest in purebred dogs.  He was also awarded the AKC Veterinary Outreach Award for his dedication to the health and well-being of companion animals.  After veterinary school, Dr. Coren pursued an internship in medicine and surgery at the prestigious Animal Medical Center in New York City.  Dr. Coren has a strong interest in Ophthalmology, Internal Medicine, and Surgery.  He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and currently lives in New York City with his wife, Jessica, and Rhodesian Ridgeback, Kobe.

    Monica Kennedy, DVM

    Dr. Monica M. Kennedy graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences in 1998. She worked at Park East Animal Hospital in NYC as a veterinary assistant for two years before attending the University College Dublin, Ireland, where she received her degree in Veterinary Medicine.  Dr. Kennedy completed an internship at Long Island Veterinary Specialists, where she developed a special interest in surgery and ophthalmology.  She then returned to Park East Animal Hospital as an associate veterinarian practicing high quality veterinary medicine on the Upper East Side.  A native of Brooklyn, NY she and her husband, Rich, enjoy traveling and taking long walks with their Boston terrier, London.

    Jen Krawchuk, DVM, CVA

    Dr. Jen Krawchuk is glad to be joining the West Hills Animal Emergency & Critical Care Center team as an overnight doctor.  Dr. Krawchuk grew up in North Babylon, NY, where she currently resides.  She obtained her Degree of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University in Basseterre, St. Kitts in 2008.  Dr. Krawchuk completed her clinical rotations at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.  She has been practicing as a small animal emergency veterinarian since obtaining her degree; Emergency medicine has been her passion throughout veterinary school and her career.  Dr. Krawchuk also has a strong interest in surgery and alternative medicine such as acupuncture, which is certified in by the Chi Institute and performs at the hospital.  She lives with her husband (Jon), son (Kory), two dogs (Rebel the Rottweiler, and Lola the “Kittian” terrier mix) and cat, Grady.  Lola and Grady were both rescued from the island of St. Kitts.  Dr. Krawchuk also enjoys horseback riding with her two American Drum Horses, Zeus and Killian.

    Anji Lippmann, DVM

    A native Floridian, Dr. Lippmann ventured further south to Grenada to attend St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine.  She was lucky enough to spend her clinical year at Murdoch University in Perth, Australia, and enjoyed spending her free time traveling and enjoying the unique wildlife.  On returning to the United States, she completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at Atlantic Coast Veterinary Specialists on Long Island.  Dr. Lippmann enjoyed the area so much that she stayed for a surgical internship at New York Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center in Farmingdale.  She has a wonderful husband, Darren, who is also a veterinarian, and an amazing son, Owen.  She also has two cats, a Grenadian transplant named Boots and a native Long Island kitty called Arwen.  Dr. Lippmann has a deep appreciation for the outdoors and has a life goal of hiking the Appalachian Trail.

    Tracey joined the practice in October of 1985, asssisting the doctors on housecalls. After a brief hiatus to start a family she returned to work part time and is now the weekend manager .     Ghislaine is the manager at our Commack office. She has been at West Hills for many years, and has worked in animal hospitals for over 25 years. She has also been actively involved in animal rescue for over 30 years. Her family has lived with everything from horses to teddy bear hamsters, but presently has several cats and a Pembroke Corgi.

    After 20 years of being a devoted equestrian Kristina had developed a career injury. Her passion for riding, competing and being around horses has not gone away as she hopes to return to riding someday in the near future. Still wanting to be around animals, Kristina landed here at West Hills Animal Hospital where she has been since November of 2003. Kristina truly enjoys her work at West Hills and loves being a part of such a wonderful group of individuals. Kristina holds a degree in Equine Science and Management. She has a wonderful dog named Soulden, better known as Shelly.  She also enjoys boating, skiing and photography.

    Karen Manuello-Benanti has been an employee at West Hills since 1985.  She graduated in 1982 from Farmindale University with her degree in veterinary technology,from there  she  went on to get her BS in biology from Brockport University.  She has been with the practice for quite a long time and has watched it grow into the modern up to date hospital we know now.  Karen has four children and a wonderful husband.  She also has a bulldog, Spike, and a variety of other pets.

    Amanda is a graduate of the Suffolk County Community College veterinary technician program. Amanda has been working at West Hills since 2007. She left temporarily to finish her undergraduate studies at Purdue University and is now back at West Hills and loving every minute of it!

    Amanda has one dog-named Harry and three cats named Hannah, Milo, and Quincy. She has been deeply involved in the equestrian world for over 13 years now, but does not have a horse at this time.

    Robin has had a huge impact on our Boarding Facility since her arrival in 1997. A long time animal lover and experienced kennel attendant, Robin is one of our hardest workers. During our most busy times, she is always the first to arrive to ensure that all of our guests are comfortable and properly cared for. Robin spends lots of extra time with our nervous guests to ease their anxiety and make their stay more enjoyable. Robin takes special pride in keeping our facility clean and orderly and proudly shows it off to prospective future guests and their parents.

    Jessica joined our team of veterinary assistants in the summer of 2005, Jessica now splits her time between assisting and being a guest attendant.  The passion she feels for animals has dominated her life since early childhood. Jessica has owned and cared for horses since the age of nine. She has always doted on her six fabulous felines throughout the years. Dogsitter, dogwalker, are some of her favorite words.  In addition to her academic high school program, Jessica became certified in veterinary assisting following a two year course of study via wilson tech. Jessica came to us straight out of Becker College where she majored in Animal Care.

    Annmarie was born and raised in Queens NY, she and her boyfriend have recently moved to Bellport Long Island.  Their family consists of 2 turtles & 2 dogs who are her heart and soul, named Diesel and Goliath.  Ever since Annmarie was a child, she has always wanted to work at the San Diego Zoo with wild animals, but ever since she started working at WHAH she thinking she would like to become a vet. Annmarie plans on going back to school soon to study and decide which field she would like to be in.

While not at the animal hospital Stacie can most often be found at the barn or at Stony Brook University where she is an english major and a psychology minor.
